(SANFORD, FL) Seminole County Public Schools (SCPS), in conjunction with the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) School Safety Division, will launch a new Middle School Awareness Campaign for 7th Grade students entitled “It Won’t Happen to Me” on Thursday, February 6, 2020 from 1:00 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. at Millennium Middle School located at 2330 E. SR 46, Sanford, FL, 32771. The event will take place inside the school’s Auditorium.

This Middle School Awareness Campaign has been created to inform middle school students on the many hidden dangers of vaping, social media, drug-use, and more. A variety of events will take place throughout the school day that will educate and lead up to an assembly that will be highlighted with guest speakers sharing their personal stories and several videos highlighting other real-world scenarios.

The goal is to launch this program at one school this school year and then expand to having all 7th Grade students experience it at all our 12 SCPS Middle Schools beginning next school year (2020-2021).

Post-assembly, SCPS Superintendent Dr. Walt Griffin and Seminole County Sheriff Dennis Lemma, will hold a joint press briefing to further explain the program and answer any questions.
