The event will allow this year’s graduates to cross a stage and enjoy photo opportunities safely.

SANFORD, Fla. (Dec. 4, 2020) – Seminole State College of Florida’s Class of 2020 will receive a well-deserved celebration when the College hosts a hybrid, drive-through graduation for its Spring, Summer and Fall 2020 graduates Dec. 15-16 on its Sanford/Lake Mary Campus. The event for Spring and Summer 2020 graduates will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Dec. 15, with the event for Fall 2020 graduates following from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Dec. 16. An RSVP and pass are required to participate.

With precautions in place due to COVID-19, the hybrid graduation will allow graduates to a cross a stage as their name is read and enjoy photo opportunities with family and friends to commemorate their achievement. Spring 2020 graduates participated in a virtual ceremony in May with the promise of an invitation to the College’s December graduation. With this event, Seminole State keeps that promise and allows graduates from Summer and Fall 2020 to have their moment in the spotlight as well.

“This year has been filled with many challenges for our students, and they deserve this moment to be formally recognized,” said Seminole State President Dr. Georgia Lorenz. “They have thrived amid many changes, and we are so proud of them. Although they always have our support, this hybrid graduation is another chance to show them how much we appreciate and admire their tremendous effort and success.”

For the hybrid graduation, graduates will arrive during the 30-minute time slot they requested. Graduates and the guests in their vehicle will then drive through a marked path featuring balloon arches, congratulatory signs and photo op areas. After passing the registration area, graduates will exit their vehicle, don their cap and gown and cross the stage to be honored for their achievement while their family and friends, who will remain in the vehicle, look on. As graduates exit the stage, they will have a formal photo taken in their regalia before re-entering their vehicle to be driven to one of three identical photo areas to take family photos and sign a commemorative wall.

For everyone’s safety, masks will be required except when graduates are on stage or having their photo taken in the designated areas. Social distancing guidelines will be followed, and staff will be on hand to help keep the event moving. To participate, graduates must have submitted an RSVP and display a car line pass in their vehicle’s windshield upon arrival.
